Cheng's enthusiasm was palpable in an interview he recently conducted. "I do believe 'Diablo Immortal' will change a lot of D2R Items people's views on what they think of as a mobile game," Cheng told The Washington Post. "That was our goals right from the beginning. Let's raise the standard of what gamers can expect from games that are mobile."

"I have three kids and they're all teenagers and they aren't able to make the same distinction between console, PC , or mobile devices," Cheng said. "They have a passion for gaming on all sorts of platforms."

The game will be able to have simultaneous release on PC with full keyboard-and mouse and controller support, as well as cross-play and cross progression that will be mobile-friendly at the time of the time of launch. This choice was made following a beta test when creators of gaming content said they'd have to play the game in order to show it on their streams according to Rod Fergusson, general manager of the Diablo franchise.

"The idea of not having an integrated support system for PC and content creators didn't feel great," he said. "When you access Westmarch, our major social city, you will find gateways in the city that allow for the oldest rifts and for the challenge rifts."

The typical play time for sessions, Grubb said, was more than 45 minutes. It was repeated throughout the day. That's when the team realized it was hitting the perfect equilibrium between short play sessions and long runs to be able to justify parking in front of the PC.

The game is a live service. This means that the team has plans to offer a range of free updates, said executive producer Peiwen Yao.

"The update will feature dungeons, storyline quests and bosses, as well as gameplay features and brand new classes," she added, adding that she wasn't able to specify what these plans are as of yet.

Cheng stated that he is confident that he can bring the Diablo series to mobile. The idea makes sense, especially since there are numerous versions of Diablo replicas available for smartphones.
