Lost Ark Gold debuted in the West last February, and also the MMORPG’s potent mixture of Diablo-esque ARPG gore along with a more long-term progression system, plus its huge roster of classes managed to get one of the best free-to-play games of 2022.

Now continually expanding, the devs at Smilegate RPG have revealed an ambitious Q2 roadmap leading into Summer. Between Raids, the Thronespire, and plenty more, there’s a great deal to dip back to, and we were able to take a seat with Roxanne Sabo, Product Community Manager on Lost Ark, to speak more about what’s visiting the game for players.

Free to slay

Lost Ark’s nature like a free-to-play MMO with flashy combat along with a huge world to understand more about make it a simple pick for players searching for a "pick-up and play" experience, and that’s something Amazon and Smilegate RPG are happy with.

“New players are visiting Lost Ark’s realm of Arkesia every single day,” Sabo says.

“The free-to-play design of the sport is certainly a large draw for brand new players, as there’s no barrier to entry and trying the sport out.”

While Sabo is understandably proud of the sport’s update cadence (working closely in sync using the rollout of content in the sport’s original Korean release to make sure parity is achieved as quickly as possible), she also admits it may be overwhelming for newcomers.

“A great deal of content to see can also be intimidating to new players, which makes them feel like there’s lots of catching up to complete,” Sabo explains, pointing to log-in events for brand new players and also the game’s Hyper Express event which powers through levels as great catch-up mechanics.

“The teams at both Amazon Games and Smilegate RPG happen to be listening closely to feedback from all types of players, along with a main focus with this year is going to be making adjustments to the sport that allow it to be more available to new and returning players.”

What's new is totally new, what's old is totally new

Those tweaks include free battle items being put into Guardian Raids at a basic level, while Knowledge Transfer will tweak requirements for leveling alternate characters. Still, how about those that jumped headfirst into Arkesia and located themselves searching for a reason to return?

“For new content visiting the game, there’s a great deal to look forward to,” Sabo explains, highlighting both Slayer and Aeromancer classes joining the ranks in Summer.

"With adding Slayer, players will have access to a brand new melee class that's built for dealing heavy damage around the battlefield.

“Aeromancer joins Artist because the second Specialist Advanced Class and it is able to manipulate the elements to devastating effect around the battlefield,” Sabo adds.

“The Aeromancer’s playstyle can also be very versatile, which class is going to be easy and inviting for brand new players to get.”

There tend to be more areas to understand more about, too, with a brand new continent, Elgacia, arriving which will have big story ramifications.

“Elgacia comes to the sport in July, which is an island continent within the sky that will provide a significant turning point towards the Lost Ark story,” Sabo says.

“In Korea, Lost Ark saw a 176% increase within the number of new and returning players following an Elgacia update, therefore we expect players within the West may wish to check it out too.”

Smilegate RPG can also be working to tweak existing content, using the gear progression system being streamlined, and early raids being tweaked in May to ensure they are easier to experience for newer or less experienced MMO players.

So, where is the ceiling, then? Where does Lost Ark range from here? Sabo is bullish on how much more there's to come.

“Lost Ark remains probably the most played game on Steam today, with new players joining daily. We’ve shared content that’s visiting the game through the summer, and can have another roadmap to share with players later this season,” she said.

“As we release more content and obtain closer to parity using the Korean version, we’ll be bringing new content to players once it’s released in Korea and we’ve had time for you to localize it for that Western audience.”
