Having spent a large portion of my time as an arcane mage in the past few years, I have a few tips I like to share. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned pro, these tips can help you reach the next level.

Skull of Gul'dan

Having a Skull of Gul'dan is a huge upgrade for warlocks. This item will give you a huge amount of spell hit. This trinket works perfectly with the Zhar'doom, Greatstaff of the Devourer.

Arcane Mages will be the main raiding specialization in wrath. They are the most mana-intensive of all mages, and they are best in short, fast-paced fights. They are also the best in AoE situations. But, there is one thing that they lack. They do not have a front-loaded burst like fire mages. This makes it a bit of a concern. Luckily, they have great trinket options. The Skull of Gul'dan has an excellent proc. It also has a passive intellect. This makes it easy to use anywhere. It has a good on-use effect, and it doesn't require you to stand in a circle.

Leggings of Calamity

Amongst the many gear items available for the Wrath of the Lich King Classic, the Leggings of Calamity standout as the best. A pair of these pants will allow you to hit like a jackhammer, and give you three gem sockets to boot. While they might be the best of the best, they are not the only pants to wear. In fact, the Leggings of the Malefic are slightly less impressive.

However, the Leggings of the Malefic can be replaced by the Leggings of the Tirisfal, which also performs well in the context of the Tirisfal Regalia set. A pair of these pants can be purchased for 100 Badge of Justice.

Pantaloons of Growing Strife

Considering the plethora of epics on offer at the moment, it's not surprising to see mages competing for the coveted scaly chest. As such, it's imperative that you pick your battles wisely. This is especially true in the early parts of the game where the competition is thin. In terms of kitting out the mages, it pays to get the best possible gear early on. After all, that's what makes WoW a great game to play in the first place.

Deathchill Cloak

Getting the right baubles will pay off in spades in the end, especially if you're not too picky.
