All 21st Century stuff.All stuff previous coach Will Muschamp and Meyer in his last season couldnt make happen. Its no coincidence that Florida hasnt been to the SEC Championship Orlando Brown Jr. Jersey Game since 2009 the last time it had a difference-maker at quarterback.Meyer won a national championship with the most prolific pa ser in school history (Chris Leak), and with the most dynamic player/leader in school history (Tim Tebow). Spurrier won a national title with the most efficient quarterback in school history (Danny Wuerffel).Meyer and Muschamp had this group starting games over the last five seasons: John Brantley, Jordan Reed (switched to tight end), Trey Burton (switched to wideout), Jeff Driskel (transferred to Louisiana Tech), Jacoby Bri sett (transferred to N.C. State), Tyler Murphy (transferred to Boston College), Skyler Mornhinweg (transferred to Columbia) and Treon Harris.Thats eight scholarship quarterbacks in the last five years, with two position switches, four transfers and no championships. For those thinking everything Meyer touches is gold, consider this: four of the eight quarterbacks were signed by Meyer, and another (Driskel) had committed to Meyer before he resigned after the 2009 season.As a defensive player, it was very frustrating, said Gators cornerback Vernon Brandon Carr Jersey Hargreaves III. You try not to show it, try not to let he offense see it. But its not like they were oblivious to it. They knew they were struggling.This is what McElwain walks into at Florida. The Gators havent been good at the most important position on the field since 2009, and therefore the program that had been known for its wildly succe sful offenses for the better part of two decades, couldnt score points. No matter who you are, no matter what kind of coach you are, if youre struggling at the quarterback spot, youre struggling to win games.In Muschamps four seasons, Florida averaged 25.3 points per game (90th out of 128 teams), 336.5 yards per game (117th), 5.18 yards per play (105th) and 170.5 pa sing yards per game (120th).In the five seasons since Tebow graduated, only Kansas and Georgia Tech threw fewer touchdown pa ses than the Gators (67) among Power Jaleel Scott Jersey 5 teams. Georgia Tech runs the flexbone, and Kansas has 12 wins since 2010.Thats spectacularly bad.I dont look at it as pre sure, McElwain says. I look at it as opportunity.That opportunity now falls on Harris or redshirt freshman Will Grier, who will compete in Kenny Young Jersey fall camp for the starting job. Theyll do so behind an offensive line that likely will start a true freshman (Martez Ivey) at left tackle, and will be a group that will train at all positions to be flexible.In other words, its a crapshoot protecting a crapshoot.When asked what was the most important part of this offensive transition, McElwain didnt hesitate.Maintaining po se sion of the ball, he said.
