A critical biography of Chiang Kai-shek

As a result of Chiang Kai-shek's instigation of secret agents, there was a big mess and he suffered a lot. On July 11, 1946, Li Gongpu, who had his head broken by secret agents during a meeting of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, was assassinated in Kunming. Four days later, Wen Yiduo, a famous professor of literature at the Southwest Associated University, was also shot dead after attending Li Gongpu's memorial service. Both Li and Wen were backbone members of the Democratic League, and Chiang Kai-shek had always believed that the Democratic League was a "hawk and dog" of the Communist Party and had always wanted to "punish" it, so after the incident, all eyes were on the spy, which became a major political murder that shocked China and foreign countries. Although the loss of two important members of the Democratic League was not a small blow, the impact on Chiang Kai-shek and his government was even greater, and the final defeat of the Kuomintang was no less powerful than that of several divisions. After going to Kunming to investigate the case, Liang Shuming, secretary general of the Democratic League, held a press conference in Shanghai on August 25 to report on the course and results of the investigation: The case can be explained by two words of hesitation. First, the Li case "did not catch the murderer," and only took out the hearing case for a "public trial." It was the Li case that "swallowed" and the hearing case that "vomited.". Second, he admitted that two middle- and lower-ranking officers of the Kunming Garrison Command had done it, which was "spitting", but out of the "personal anger" of the murderer, cold drawn tubes, he "swallowed" the chief plotter of the assassination. Third, only Central News Agency reporters were allowed to participate in the "public trial," which was "spitting," but Ta Kung Pao reporters and other newspaper reporters were refused to participate, which was "swallowing.". Fourth, the "public trial" is like the end of the trial, which is "spit", but when asked whether it is a retrial, impact beam tubes, they can not answer that it is "swallow". (Liang Shuming, Remembering the Past and Talking about the Past, p. 229) The reason why this case could not be "swallowed" under high pressure was that the secret agents were too blatant and the people were too angry. However, Liang Shuming's investigation could not find out the whole inside story after all, and the inside story had to be revealed by the people inside. At that time, Dai Li had died in a plane crash for nearly four months, and Chiang Kai-shek sent Tang Zong to Kunming to handle the case. Before leaving for Kunming, Tang received a telegram from Zheng Xiuyuan (alias Zheng Lubing), director of the Juntong Personnel Department, at 5 a.m. on July 22, "reporting that the Li and Wen cases were related to the Garrison Department.". Tang flew to Kunming on the 23rd. Zheng Xiuyuan, Li Yuzhen, chief of the Yunnan Police Department, and Gong Shaoxia, chief of the Kunming Police Department, "reported to him the truth and circumstances of Li and Wen's case." Tang asked them to "speak cautiously to the outside world.". Tang flew from Kunming to Shanghai on the 26th, side impact door beams ,beam impact tubes, and the next day to Jiujiang, where he went to see Chiang Kai-shek at Guling to report on his journey. Tang said: The chairman was still angry and cursed Huo Yizhang as a madman. Yu said that when Wen Yiyu received the press conference, he insulted the leader and strongly denounced the secret agents, which stimulated him too much. The young people were full of vigor and vitality and could not control it for a while. The chairman sighed and said, You will go to Kunming again. (Eight Years at Chiang Kai-shek's Side, p. 634) The incident was so serious that he lost face, so Chiang Kai-shek lost his temper and cursed Huo Kui-chang. Who is Huo Yizhang? Is the garrison commander in chief also, is Chen Cheng's confidant. In Guling, Tang met Zhang Zhenguo, a senior counselor in Chen Cheng's office. He said that Huo had been scolded by the leader and was at his wits' end. He had written to the Kunming Inspection Office to arrest the personnel involved in the operation and hold out his chest to be a martyr? Election July 28, 3 pm Chiang summoned Tang again, and Tang told Chiang: The two cases of Li and Wen should be separated to show that they were not planned actions. The case of Wen was stimulated by the accidental acts of chivalry. The case of Li was undertaken by Yunnan people to retaliate against the chivalrous acts of Li Gongpu's troops. The chairman said, "No, if the Lee case is not solved, it will be a pending case.". (Op. Cit., op. CIT.) "To show that there is no planned action", is it not "there is no silver here"? It is tantamount to thinking that it is a planned action of the garrison headquarters, and in order to explain to society, it must fabricate stories. The story of the Li case was not well fabricated, so Chiang Kai-shek wanted to make it a "pending case" for the time being. Tang Zong flew to Kunming again on July 31 to discuss specific steps with Lu Han, Gu Zhutong and Huo Yizhang. Lu Han, chairman of Yunnan Province, said: "There is no need to investigate the case. It has become an open secret." At that time, the open secret was done by secret agents, so it was decided that "one person from local organizations such as Qinglong and Jinma should take responsibility for the case". (See Tang Zong's Eight Years at Chiang Kai-shek's Side, p. 635.) It can be proved that it was not the murder of two middle and junior officers in a moment of anger, but the planned action of the garrison headquarters, so it was necessary to find a scapegoat to "take responsibility". When Tang Zong learned the whole truth, he said that the case report of the secret agents was "brief and hasty" and that he was "very sorry" for it? Choose (See the same book, page 637) Although his diary is vague, the clues are very clear, and it is very clear that Huo Yizhang is the main culprit in the book "Inside Juntong": The original purpose of Huo's killing of these democratic personages was to please Chiang Kai-shek and to reappoint him as chairman of the Yunnan Provincial Government. Because Huo was an important member of Chen Cheng's clique, he learned from Chen Cheng that Chiang Kai-shek had always hated democratic personages who sympathized with the Communist Party of China. He thought that this would win Chiang's favor, but he did not expect to get the opposite end. (Volume II, pages 457 to 458) Chen Cheng was absolutely right when he said that Chiang hated the Democrats to the bone. In fact, on June 5, more than a month before the incident, Chiang Kai-shek explicitly instructed that "the Democratic League should not be tolerated" and "should be attacked.". (See Tang Zong's "Eight Years at Chiang Kai-shek's Side," p. 622.) If Huo did not "appease" Li Gongpu and Wen Yiduo, members of the Democratic League, to invite favor, Chiang would not kill Li and Wen, but Li and Wen would die because of Chiang. The reaction of the U.S. side to this incident was very strong. President Truman wrote a letter on August 10, which was "stern" and "even abrupt", asking the Chinese Embassy to transmit it to Chiang Kai-shek immediately. In it, he specifically mentioned that "the recent assassination of prominent Chinese liberals in Kunming should not be ignored, regardless of who is responsible for these brutal murders. As a result, the United States has become concerned about the situation in China and increasingly believes that the Chinese authorities only seek to solve major social problems by violence, such as the army or the secret police, rather than by democratic means. (See Gu Weijun's Memoirs, side impact beams, Vol. 6, p. 17) Marshall also mentioned to Chiang Kai-shek the assassination of Professors Li and Wen when someone was present, which made Chiang very embarrassed.
