Provigil is a wake-promoting drug developed by US-based pharmaceutical company Cephalon, Inc. to treat narcolepsy and sleep apnea in patients. Modafinil, the drug’s active ingredient, was initially created in the early 1990s. Since then, it has been prescribed by a variety of clinics around the world. Also known as Modalert, it aids patients to wake up refreshed and combats excessive daytime sleepiness brought on by shift work disorder (SWD), narcolepsy, and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). ADHD patients can see significant results using this wakefulness drug. Due to its high success rate, more doctors are prescribing it to narcoleptic patients. The FDA-approved medication belongs to a class of drugs known as centrally acting sympathomimetics or central nervous system (CNS) stimulants. It is often used in conjunction with other medications to provide effective treatment.
